You are a hospitality professional who can support the efforts of both front and heart of house operations, while providing one of a kind meeting experiences to our business guests. As a Banquet Captain, you will:

  • Direct team to set-up daily functions in meeting rooms.
  • Complete a weekly schedule based on budgeted labor goals.
  • Order banquet set-up supplies such as linen and other supplies while meeting budgeted goals.
  • Maintain proper levels of equipment to service clients and guests.
  • Greet customer contact prior to the start of each major function and maintains contact throughout the function to ensure that all arrangements are satisfactory.
  • Proactively anticipate the needs of guests and clients.
  • Act as liaison between the client and various hotel departments.
  • Assist management in training, scheduling, motivating, and coaching banquet staff and serve as a role model to team.
  • Participate in weekly BEO Meeting.
  • Assist in completing all monthly and quarterly inventories of supplies and equipment in the F&B area.
  • Inspect storage areas for organization, use of first-in/first-out, and cleanliness.
  • Discuss details in set-up diagrams with appropriate managers.
  • Work with F&B Department to handle room service requests.
  • Attend Biltmore Farms Quarterly Manager Meetings, as requested by manager.
  • Assist in managing P&L costs based on forecast and budget goals, as requested by manager.
  • Adhere to Biltmore Farms policies as they relate to professionalism with clientele.
  • Assist guests in obtaining special equipment or supplies. (i.e. flowers, linens, A/V equipment, etc.)
  • Assist F&B Manager with special projects, as requested.
  • Follow all company and safety and security policies and procedures; reports accidents, injuries, and unsafe work conditions to manager; and completes safety training and certifications.
  • Train all associates in proper serving of banquet food and beverages.
  • Ensure all associates are trained in safe food handling procedures as outlined by the Health Department and Hilton brand requirements.
  • Ensure all associates complete training for certification in the proper service of alcoholic beverages.
  • Maintain a neat, clean, and well-groomed appearance while holding banquet team to same standard.
  • Maintain availability to work a flexible schedule including weekends and holidays, rotating AM/PM shifts as needed.

SUPPORTIVE FUNCTIONS:

In addition to the performance of the essential functions, this position may be required to perform a combination of the following supportive functions:

  • Assists guests in obtaining special equipment or supplies. (i.e.: flowers, linens, A/V equipment, etc.)
  • Assist Food & Beverage Manager and Sales department with special projects as needed.
  • The Banquet Captain will also be responsible for the implementation of any additional tasks and projects as outlined by the Food & Beverage Manager.

Specific Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to effectively demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job.

  • Knowledge of a hotel structure and how all departments work together, particularly the Food & Beverage and Sales & Catering Departments.
  • Ability to effectively communicate, both oral and written, in a friendly and positive manner in order to meet client needs and resolve issues.
  • Ability to move throughout the hotel to direct set-up operations.
  • Ability to handle multiple customer and operational demands with a high degree of professionalism, often operating with time sensitive deadlines.
  • Ability to listen, speak and write to ascertain and respond to client needs.
  • Must be able to analyze and interpret client billing invoices.
  • Basic mathematical skills to address set up matrix to help in reduction of cost in labor and supplies.
  • Must have knowledge of Food & Beverage etiquette, audio/visual equipment, guest relations and service standards.
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical issues with a variety of audio/visual equipment including microphones, computers (Mac, PC, and tablets), volume mixers, projectors, and lighting.
  • Knowledge of frequently used computer programs, such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Ability to motivate a team of individuals to perform duties and serve the guests, clients, and hotel employees in a professional and courteous manner.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience

Any combination of education and / or experience equivalent to:

  • Associate degree or related degree, preferably within hospitality field; AND
  • At least four years prior hotel experience, preferably in a banquet events setting.
  • Of the above minimum experience requirement, at least one (1) year of supervisory experience required.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to lift and carry at least 35 lbs. on a tray or arm service where it applies. Requires grasping, constant standing, frequent walking, repetitive motions, visual insight, bending, stooping, and turning. Must be able to use cleaning solvents and detergents on a daily basis.

Grooming:

All team members must maintain and keep a professional, appropriate, and well-groomed appearance.

Other:

Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, employees may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the hotel.
