Essential Elements

The General Manager (GM) is responsible for managing the rooms area of the hotel property, meeting or exceeding planned objectives for revenue and profit, and ensuring guest satisfaction and product quality standards are met. The GM should be knowledgeable and properly trained in all facets of the hotel operations, front office operations, housekeeping, maintenance, sales, accounting, and human resources.

The GM is expected to identify opportunities for enhancing and improving the operating model set forth by senior management. The analysis should include the following: an objective, cost associated (if any), ROI (Return on Investment), timeline for implementation, resources (tools) required to measure results and accountability. Additionally, the GM is required to manage all areas of the hotels in accordance within brand and company standards to achieve a friendly atmosphere of superior guest service and product quality. The GM also provides exemplary performance for staff to follow.

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to:

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, hospitality and tourism, human resources, or other applicable field of study;
  • AND at least two (2) years' prior hotel experience.
  • Must possess at least one (1) year of prior supervisory experience.
  • Must possess a valid NC driver's license for frequent local travel.

Skills and Competencies

  • Must be very organized, systematic, patient, motivated, confident and a hard worker.
  • Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills, strong leadership skills, analytical and problem-solving skills, good customer service skills and multi-tasking skills.
  • Works well under pressure, even with minimal supervision.
  • Works independently or as part of a large team.
